Career development is a cornerstone of COACH's mandate, as reflected in the association's Strategic Goal to "Advance Health Informatics as a Profession."
A variety of services and tools are available through the Health Informatics Professionalism Program and more are in development to ensure the entire spectrum of participants, including students, recent graduates, anyone considering a career change to HI and experienced practitioners, is served.
You learn more about the program and related career development activities in this area of the website as follows:
- the Health Informatics Professional Core Competencies, containing the COACH definition of HI and the 46 skills, abilities and knowledge areas – competencies – that HI professionals use to perform safely and effectively in a broad range of environments;
- new career development tools, including a credentialing program;
- the Ethical Principles, a set of behavioural standards (available only to COACH members);
- the Health Informatics Training System (HITS) online self-study course;
- current HI and healthcare job opportunities;
- industry conferences and training;
- the COACH annual Awards Program and scholarships.
