Community-Based Physician Leader/Innovator

This award honours a community-based physician who has shown outstanding leadership or innovation in the use of health IT in medical practice.

Presented by
Criteria
Nominations must specifically address all the following criteria and incomplete nominations will not be considered.

  • Practicing MD.
  • The nominee’s clinical colleagues have recognized him/her as a champion for advancing the use of IT for healthcare delivery.
  • The nominee has served as a role model for using technology to improve the quality of patient care in a community setting.
  • The nominee provides demonstrable leadership in encouraging the appropriate use of IT for healthcare.
  • The nominee has made innovative use of IT to improve medical practice or healthcare.

Examples

  • Implementing and using an EMR in an innovative fashion in own practice.
  • Encouraging interconnectivity of IT systems between healthcare providers and institutions in the community.
  • Encouraging use of IT to improve health outcomes, increase efficiency, improve patient safety, and enhance research.

Recognition
The award recipient receives a personalized plaque from COACH and special Canadian Health Informatics Awards (CHIA) statue at the annual CHIA Gala.

The 2009 winner was Dr. James Lane.
