The 2009 Guidelines for the Protection of Health Information, available as both user-friendly PDF and a new reference book, is an important resource for protecting privacy and security of health information, particularly when designing or maintaining information systems. (See prices and Media Release.) Major changes include:

  • Expanded content on EHR and electronic medical and personal health records (EMR, PHR);
  • The improved PDF version, including pop-up definitions and more hyperlinks and diagrams;  (See Using the e-Guidelines.);
  • The new 300-page textbook version, ideal to meet educational and reference needs in academic and professional settings;
  •  Carrying out a major update on the Guidelines every second year and issuing supplementary handbooks focusing on specific subject areas or audiences in the alternate years.
